About DeepSea Technologies

Who we are

Built at the intersection of AI and maritime engineering

Founded in 2017, DeepSea Technologies was created to solve one of shipping's most complex challenges: vessel performance optimisation. The company was founded by Dr. Konstantinos Kyriakopoulos, an AI researcher at the University of Cambridge, and Roberto Coustas, an Oxford-educated mechanical engineer and vessel performance manager — combining deep expertise in artificial intelligence with firsthand operational understanding of the maritime industry.

Today, DeepSea operates where advanced research meets real-world execution. Our teams bring together AI scientists, software engineers, marine experts, and product specialists to build solutions that model, monitor, and optimise vessels in live operating conditions.

Who we are

From vision to action

DeepSea Technologies was founded in 2017 by Dr. Konstantinos Kyriakopoulos, an AI researcher at the University of Cambridge, and Roberto Coustas, an Oxford-educated mechanical engineer and vessel performance manager, combining deep AI expertise with firsthand operational knowledge of shipping.

Starting with high-frequency sailing data, and the most accurate vessel modeling in the industry, DeepSea grew into a leader in AI-driven maritime decision support, helping operators optimise fuel consumption, emissions, speed and voyage execution across global fleets.

In 2023, Nabtesco became the primary shareholder, bringing together DeepSea's AI capabilities with Nabtesco's expertise in marine control systems and industrial automation to accelerate scalable, semi-autonomous shipping technologies.

Today, DeepSea operates where advanced research meets real-world execution, closing the gap between optimisation plans and what actually happens on board..

"AI is decarbonisation’s secret weapon – a ‘silver bullet’ which can make a dramatic improvement to every fleet. CII, profitability, asset value – it helps our customers improve their key metrics across the board."

— Dr. Konstantinos Kyriakopoulos, CEO & Co-founder

Measurable Impact

Reduced fuel consumption

Lower CO₂ emissions

Improved CII performance

EU ETS optimisation

Reduced crew workload

Stronger TCE outcomes

Mission & impact

Driving decarbonisation through AI

DeepSea exists to harness the power of AI and data to make every vessel safer, cleaner, and more profitable — accelerating shipping's transition toward net zero. We believe AI is not a future-layer added onto maritime operations; it is a practical operating system for a more efficient and sustainable fleet.

Our systems are designed to help shipping companies respond to rising commercial, operational, and regulatory pressure with greater precision. By turning high-frequency vessel data into predictive, real-time intelligence, DeepSea enables smarter decisions across fleets and helps operators improve performance where it matters most.

Our mission

Intelligence that drives action

Our mission is to help fleets to operate at their full potential, more efficiently, safely, and sustainably.

We build systems that enable shipping companies navigate growing commercial, operational, and regulatory complexity with greater precision and consistency.

Beyond improving vessel performance, our mission is to contribute to a more sustainable global supply chain by reducing fuel waste, lowering emissions, and accelerating the transition toward safer and more responsible maritime operations for the benefit of industry and society.
